2020 - Firepit unveils communal apathy, disconnect, and hostility often directed toward “others”. This theme evolved intuitively over a few weeks, early in the Covid shutdown. What began as my personal annoyance over a neighbor’s new smokey firepit evolved into a response to the police killing of George Floyd. As the USA fell into chaos, an animation error caused a disturbing scene in the virtual space I was building. Several figures became clumped together in the scene’s firepit. Other characters watched with an almost evil nonchalance as they surround those pit figures, legs swinging. Firepit evolved into an allegory for the emotional disconnect underlying extreme cruelty.
