2020 - Firepit unveils the communal apathy, disconnect, and hostility toward “others”. This theme evolved intuitively over a period of a few weeks, early in the Covid pandemic lockdown. The subject began with my personal annoyance over a neighbor's new smoky firepit. Two weeks later the USA fell into chaos with the killing of George Floyd. Within my project an animation error clumped several figures together at the bottom of the pit, and I was horrified by the imagery. The remaining characters appeared to be attending a tailgating party, with an almost evil nonchalance as they surround the pit figures, legs swinging. Firepit evolved into an allegory revealing the emotional disconnect underlying extreme cruelty.
